With all this pattern testing, I thought to myself, "I can do this!" I decided to try at making a dress of my own for Miss Danica for next summer. There are some alterations that I can think of after this first draft, but hey, it's not bad for my first one! I would like to eventually make more sizes, offer my own testing, and then sell the pattern in my etsy. But, that is WAY in the future! I first need to perfect her size.

I'd like to know your thoughts on this dress. As I said, it's my first of drafting my own pattern, so it's definitely not perfect by any means. What are your thoughts?

1. Do you like the style?

2. Would you buy a pattern like this, and sew it yourself?

3. Would you like it to be reversible?

4. What sizes would you like to see?

Some Knitting

I've recently gotten into knitting as well! This is my first "real" knitting project that Danica can actually wear. I hand dyed the yarn myself and just love how it knitted up. The kids and I also dyed some yarn together the other day, will have to make another post about that! :)

All in all, I think it turned out, but it is a bit shorter than I had planned on it being, I didn't want to run out of yarn for the hat, and I almost did! But, with a pair of jeans for the fall, this will be an awesome top!

Imke Hoodie and Dortje Pants

Made a hoodie and pants for my little girl today! The pattern is from the Sewing Clothes Kids Love book. I still have yet to make that Felix Dress. Anyways, the shirt is adorable on her, and she LOVES the pants. She was so happy to find that she had pockets in her pants. :) The material for the fabric is from that polyester fabric I received awhile back. They actually make great pants! I am going to make her some more of these pants, especially for daycare, as all she is going to do is run around in them and get them dirty anyways!

Sewing Machine Broke...

So, yeah, after I sewed those three dresses for the neighbor, I started to make some hoodies for my own daughter, and my machine broke. :( I was so devastated!!!! So, I had to take it in to get fixed, or, if it's too much money, then I will get a new one. It might be nice to get a new machine. Mine was $70 when bought, and was a great new machine for a beginner like me. That was three year ago, and I have DEFINITELY grown as a seamstress!!!

If I get a new one, I will show pictures of it. I was shopping around a bit today to see what there was available. We'll have to just wait and see. :)

Polyester Playdress

On our local metro re-use-it group I posted that I wanted some fabric that was up. It was said that it was knit fabric, well, when I picked it up, it was polyester fabric from the 1970s! This stuff is old, but it makes such cute dresses for my daughter to play in. :) The pink rick rack just makes it perfect as well. I am planning on making some of these up for this summer. It was so easy, plus she likes it, and it's not too heavy of fabric. At least I will make use for what I have, and not spend any money on the material.

This tag makes this dress perfect. It says "mama made" and has a mushroom on it. :)

Sewing Clothes Kids Love

I just received my book in the mail today! Did some reading, and now I am ready to tackle at the Feliz Dress!!! I plan on making it for Fourth of July partying! This book was written very well, and, needless to say, I am a bit scared! I do consider myself an intermediate sewer, however, this pattern looks definitely more complicated than what I have ever sewn. I am excited to begin on something new and fun. There are 50 days left of school, so I think I should make a plan to get this dress done in time for school to get out. This way my daughter can wear this all summer long!!! I will keep updated on the progress I am making with this dress. :) Wish me luck!

Another Dress and Undies!

This picture is of the hat I crocheted for her! She loves it so much she wears it around the house even! She sometimes won't take it off!!! It's too cute!

This dress is another Spin Around Dress. I made it out of my late grandmother's fabric. She loved Elvis so much, and I knew I wanted to make a dress out of that fabric. :) It still needs snaps and a sash, and then it will be ready to go.

WE ARE POTTY TRAINED!!! WOOHOO!!! All of a sudden one day we decided we were going to go potty, and I wasn't going to stop her. She has been trained for two weeks now. A cousin gave me these cuts and I sewed them up. They are all just the layers of fabric for undies, except the sail boats. That has one soaker in it. She loves her new undies, especially the "chickens" and the hearts.

Ooga Booga Love!

I made another Spin Around Dress, but altered it a bit. I made the dress shorter, for a shirt, then added sleeves, and pants to complete an outfit. I think Danica loved it, because her "modeling" pictures are adorable. I had so much fun making this, and it's my first outfit for my daughter.

I decided to make my daughter a new dress (or two) because we are getting into the potty learning stage, and diapers are in our past! I found this pattern for free and decided to try and whip it up. I am amazed at how well it turned out! I love this pattern, and now I am altering the pattern a bit to make it shorter for a shirt, and then I am going to sew some pants to make with it. Then she will have an outfit. :)

I love sewing her some clothes! It's nice to cut the fabric, sew it up, and see a finished product!!! I can't wait to sew her some more clothes!

Ooga Booga Tinkle Time Trainer

Here is an Ooga Booga Tinkle Time Trainer made for a customer. I love the colors of this fabric together! I also love the ooga fabric, it makes for a REALLY cute trainer! The trainer is made from a knit fabric with 3 layers of an absorbent stretch terry cloth. I hope she enjoys it, I just wanted to share my work!

Socks are coming along!!!

As you can tell, I am beginning to make some progress in my socks. I have the feet and toes left to do on this one, and then to start the second. I have been incredibly busy, so I haven't been knitting them much. I was happy to see the heel begin to form though!!! I knew I was making progress because I could see the transformation happen!!! Hopefully by my next post, I will have 50% of my socks done. :)

My first pair of socks are coming along!!! I have about 4 inches done on the cuffs of the one pair right now, and am hoping to start on the heel sometime today. Knitting on dpns are so much easier than I thought it would be. I can't believe that I let them intimidate me! :) I hope to have this one sock done by this weekend! I think that would make for a good goal. Oh, and as you can tell, I am using yarn that you would make hot pad holders, or dishcloths out of, because I didn't know how it would turn out at first. I didn't want to buy expensive yarn until I knew how to knit using dpns! My next pair will be much cuter!

I am beginning to feel adventurous and want to learn to knit socks. I must say, I was VERY intimidated by using the double point needles. I have just started to knit them, but it's actually not that hard to knit in the round. I am very pleased with myself for learning to do this on my own. :) I never thought, in a million years, that I would be knitting socks, but here I am!!! I will post more pictures as I get more accomplished!

I have been wanting to learn to knit for quite some time now, and I finally just said, I want to do it! So, I asked my grandma, who is very good at knitting to help me out, and to show me the basics of knitting. I could have learned from watching videos online, but learning from my own grandmother was special for me. Now she can see what kinds of things I am working on.

The first two pictures are of the Transformers dishcloth I made for Jeremiah. He saw this and just had to have it. I made it in a day.

The bottom picture is of the first couple of garter stitches I did just for practice. I am getting better now, and I am feeling much more confident.

OS Diaper

I decided to try another pocket diaper for Dani. I had some really cute PUL and wanted to make her something out of it! I love how it turned out! This is a one size pocket diaper made with a welt pocket opening. I love how that turned out too! I feel I am getting better every day at sewing and making new things. The pictures of the diaper closed are on the smallest setting and the largest setting. I got the pattern here. It looks huge when cut out, but I would say it fits so nicely!!! I almost wish I would have known about this pattern a long time ago! I would have made most of her diapers this way from the start, since it's a OS diaper. The diaper is stuffed with a microfiber towel, and the inside of the diaper is microfleece, which is so soft.

I saved some of Danica's old cloth diapers from when she was a newborn for her dolls for when she learns some day to put the diapers on them. I am NOT going to buy disposables for her babies!!! So here are some pictures of her putting the diapers on her baby. Too cute!!!

Trimsies Diapers

I received the Trimsies pattern a little while ago back in August, and am just now beginning to post the pictures. :( These are both a size large Trimsies. I love the Care bear one!!! That is Danica's absolute most favorite one too. :) The Care bear diaper is made with the outer layer of flannel, and inner layer of pink microfleece, which is SOO soft! Then the inside soakers are made with hemp terry on the inside and the part that touches Danica is made with that same pink microfleece.

The bottom two pictures are also of the Trimsies pattern. I made both the inside and the outside out of cotton velour. This diaper just looks squishy. I showed it to Danica and the first thing she said to me was oohh, soft. :)

I like the Trimsies pattern! Even my husband was impressed with what I had made. He asked me if I was going to sell it! I said no!!! Plus, I'd have to get a license for it. I like these for my own stash! :)

My most favorite one of all so far!!!

Here are the five Tinkle Time Trainers I have made for my very first customer! She told me to have fun with the prints because she didn't care. So I had fun choosing things that I would like for my little girl when that "day" finally comes. The bottom right trainer is actually a pair of undies lined with OBV! It is so soft! These will be shipped out sometime next week to their new owner! I hope she enjoys them as much as I enjoyed making them!

This is a front snapping Tinkle Time Trainer. I made it with an outside layer of PUL for waterproofness. The inside has one layer of terrycloth with a booster layer of hemp, and lined with antipill fleece.

This is the pull up version of the Tinkle Time Trainer. I love, love, love how this one turned out!!! It is so adorable! Danica had to wear it around the house over her diapers all day long, because she loved it so much! :) This trainer has one layer of hemp for the soaker, topped with one layer of OBV, which I must say, is oh so soft! The whole thing is not waterproof, but, when you are learning how to use the potty, you do need to know when you are feeling wet! I think this one is just too cute!

New Undies

The pattern that I got for Danica's undies went up to a size 7, so I thought, why not make Jeremiah some undies as well. He picked out the fabric, and he says they are awesome!!! He loves them so much he is wearing them right now. He also told me he wants me to make him some more, because they are so comfy. I didn't put the elastic in his because I wasn't sure how it would hold up.

As you can tell, he had to "model" his new undies for me!

Mama Cloth with Fleece

I know, the first thing you think of when you hear "cloth pads" is EEWWW!!!! Hear me out! They are so much more comfortable than your disposables out there! I thought about doing something new. I have a TON of fleece lying around my house, so I thought, why not try it for the backing of my pads for my medium days. Here are the pads that I made last night. I will let you know how they have worked for me later! I had fun with the fleece, because the fleece I have is so cute! The three pads that are white consist of a top layer of velour, a middle layer of either terry or hemp, I was just experimenting, not sure which one has what, then a bottom layer of fleece, along with two layers of fleece for the wings. So that's about 5 layers, one of them 6, but serging was hard for that one. :)

AI2 Cloth Pad

I decided to try out something new for my cloth pads that I have made. I bought some OBV, which is oh so soft! Then I had some fleece lying around the house. I saw something like this online, where you snap in the top of the pad to the liner, and when it comes time to change the pad, all you change is the pad part, but you keep the liner, and use it again. Once I got all of this cut out, it was so easy! I serged around the whole bottom part of the liner, and for the pad, it consists of a top layer of OBV, two layers of terry cloth, and a bottom layer of fleece as well. There is no PUL in this pad. It is completely breathable. For the liner, I made it with wings, and I have two snaps for adjustability. I do hope this works, and it is leakproof. I've heard so many good things about fleece, I wanted to try it out for myself. :)

Fixing my Bum Genius Diapers

Here is a before shot of the diaper...as you can tell, the elastic is in need of much care.
Here is the diaper halfway done. I wanted to see how well it turned out, so I turned the diaper, and I was amazed at how well it looked!
Here is the finished product! Looks almost brand new again, at least in the elastic part. This diaper has been used very well by my daughter. :)

I got this tutorial on fixing bum genius diapers. Mine are in need of some TLC, so I thought I would give it a try and see how easy it was. Boy! It looks like a whole new diaper! I am so thankful for this tutorial on how to fix them!

I can't believe that you can spend $18.00 a diaper, and have the elastic wear out! All the diapers that I have made so far have not worn out. The elastic is still in great condition and have plenty of life left of them. At least I know I can fix the ones I bought from stores! Now off to test my diaper!!!

OS Fitted Diaper

This is a one size fitted diaper. I have this picture on the smaller setting. To get to the smaller setting you fold down the top of the diaper and snap where needed.

When I made the snap in soaker I didn't want to use the suede cloth as well. But the suede cloth I used matched the little red spots on the diaper I wanted to use it on the inside of the diaper. I used my bamboo velour on the snap in soaker, and oh is it ever so soft! I may make a lay in soaker with this diaper, for some extra absorbency.
I thought it was fun to use colored snaps when making this diaper. It makes it for a better diaper, in my opinion.
Here is the diaper again, only made with a pair of matching booties. I love making baby booties. I have a friend whose sister is pregnant and I may make her some of my booties for her new baby. I think matching the diaper with the booties is even better. :)

OS Mushroom Diaper (Rita's Rump Pocket)

I decided to try and do something with this fabric that I had lying around the house. It's too cute to just go to waste. I made a Rita's Rump Pocket diaper with it. But the other pocket diaper I made out of this pattern was too small for Danica, so I made it a bit larger than the last time so hopefully it will fit her. I haven't tried it on her yet, but will do soon.

The diaper has an opening in the back where you stuff it. I stuffed mine with a microfiber towel. On the inside I used anti-pill fleece for stay dry. I love how the yellows match up with each other. This is my fun diaper.

AIO Diaper (Medium/Large)

I decided to try an AIO (all-in-one) diaper because it sounded like fun to make. I didn't want to make them like I had before, I wanted to do something different. I crafted my own pattern on this one, and I LOVE IT!!!! My mother said I should set up a shop and sell them because I have so much fun making these. This particular diaper has snaps on the front of it to fit a smaller baby. It fits my hefty 27 pound chunker, but I bet would go up to 35 pounds for a toddler that is tall and skinny. (Like my cousin's) The snaps on the front would close down to make the diaper smaller and would start at about 15 pounds. So I would call this a medium/large AIO.

The outside of the diaper has PUL, and the part touching the baby is suede cloth. I made a hidden internal soaker out of sherpa. Sherpa is SOOOO soft! When I put this on Danica she didn't want to take it off, she liked it a lot! She said it was soft, and boy is it ever!

I want to try and sell this diaper though, so I just put it on her for looks. I will be putting it up on Etsy later to see if I can sell it! I can't wait to make more and try to sell those as well! Keep your fingers crossed!!

Patchwork Skirt

I found this tutorial on making a patchwork three tiered skirt for Danica. The fabric the lady used was much cuter than mine, but mine is old scraps that my grandmother had already cut into 5 inch pieces. So, why not use them and make her a skirt out of it! I love how it turned out though! Unlike the other skirt I made a while back, I think this one may actually fit her! Yeah! I haven't had a chance to try it on her yet, as I made it when she was sleeping. I will have her wear it today though! The only thing I don't like is the hem at the bottom. I used black thread instead of white. You can definitely see it. I will use white the next time.

Side Snapping Traning Pants

Isn't this fabric amazingly adorable!!!!!

I just absolutely LOVE how this turned out!!! Danica is starting to show signs of potty learning, and I thought, what about making her some training pants to help her out along the way. These training pants have side snaps for easy access in case of those "accidents" for beginning.

Here is how these training pants are assembled. The outer, of course, is a waterproof material (PUL), and the part that will touch Danica is red suede cloth. The inside of the pants consist of a layer of VERY soft sherpa that is between the PUL and the suede cloth. Attached to the sherpa is a sewn in soaker that consists of two layers organic hemp. Hemp is so absorbant, I only did two layers, because these are supposed to be trainers. The outside of the pants has FOE (fold over elastic). I was running VERY LOW on that towards the end, and I though I wouldn't have enough, but I did. :) Just barely though!!! Then at the end I attached my snaps to the pants and we were ready to go! My next mission for this is to not do FOE, but to have regular attached elastic on the inside, and then topstitch all the way around the pants. I'd like to see how that turns out also. I will keep the same layering of the trainer, and, if I need to I can add one more layer of hemp as well. I am going to try these on Danica tomorrow to see how they fit her. I will post with pictures later. :0)

Renaming of Blog

I decided to re-name my blog from "Sewing Cloth Diapers for Baby #2" to "Wheeler Creations-Sewing With Love" because my little girl isn't going to be in cloth diapers forever. I have now started to not only sew her some diapers, but venture out to other things as well. I still hope you will enjoy reading this blog as much as I have making it. I will still periodically make diapers from time to time. It's a passion of mine, and I won't stop that.

Pretty in her New Skirt

Here are some pictures of Dani sporting her new skirt that I made for her. It's a bit long, and a bit big around the waist, but that just means more room for it to grow later on. She will be able to wear this skirt for quite some time in the next few years. I had it rolled up around her waist to fit her better, so it would have been even longer if I had it on her the right way.

I love the middle picture of her! It's her saying "cheese" to the camera! Which, these days she loves to do!

Three Tiered Skirt

Danica is getting to the age that she will soon be potty trained within a year or so. While I've enjoyed making her diapers, and I still will :), I know that she will be out of them soon. That is why I thought I would start to try and make her clothes now. I got this material from Sarah at www.wallypop.net. It is a lovely blue cotton print with gold sticks and snowflakes on it. It was free, and I know with snowflakes it doesn't really work for the summer, but I had to try this out. I got the idea from this pattern. I had to make my own measurements so they would fit Danica well. I haven't had a chance to try it on her yet, but will do as soon as I can tomorrow.

This skirt didn't take very long to make. I think all together it took about 2 hours or so. It was the first time I have ever made anything like this before, also the first time for me to do gathering. EEEEKKKK!!!! But I think I did okay! I did see one flaw, one of the seams didn't match up together, but that is only ONE out of three layeres of material. I know that I would like to try this pattern again for Danica. I have other things that I would like to try out first though. I will post a picture of her in this skirt sometime tomorrow, so I can see how it fits her.

Quick Snap Flat Wrap (with touchtape)

I got this pattern from my cousin to try out for Danica. I cut out the largest setting as she is 26 to 27 pounds, so I know that she won't fit into anything smaller. :) It turned out nice! The hard part about this diaper was serging the small corners. I kept cutting my material for the one side of the flap. I had to tuck it all in, and then serge around it.

The soaker, which is here was simple to do. I used four layers for it. Two of the bright orange matierial, and then two of my receiving blanket I had. The diaper itself is 3 layers. It consists of two orange pieces and then one of the receiving blanket. When folded correctly, and if I'm adding right, it's 16 layers in the front. Which, if I decide to make this diaper for an overnight diaper, I will use this many layers. Especially in the front, since she sleeps on her tummy. :)

I really liked this pattern a lot. It was easy, and quick to make. I may modify it a bit in my own way. I know I needed to make the rise a bit longer, and if I use touch tape again, then I will need to cut that longer also for the front tab. All in all it turned out good! I can't wait to make another one!

Asleep in the Mei Tei

Thanks Sarah! We love using our Mei Tei carrier everywhere we go!!!! Our day at the Living History Farms would have been harder with a stroller, but with the Mei Tei I knew where Danica was, and I also knew that she was able to see everything. However, by the end of the day, she was so worn down, she crashed while being worn around.

Danica loves this wrap so much that I find myself wearing her while cooking dinner. At least I know where she is and I know that she isn't getting into anything that she's not supposed to. :)

Pillow Case Dresses (More)

Here are the rest of my pillow case dresses I made. On two of them I just turned the top down to make a casing, but I used bias tape on the one of them. For the ties I used bias tape as well, but though to do a couple threads of yard for the other one that was reddish in color. They all turned out really cute. I also put a picture of Danica wearing hers as well. We went to the Science Center, and I got compliments from mothers there. They really liked her dress, and when I told them I made it they were shocked. If I make Danica another one, I am not going to make it so long, and then I am going to make the top go down just a bit, so it's not so close to her throat. I'm hoping by this summer it will fit her better. Then, if she doesn't grow much waist wise, I am hoping it will fit her again next summer.

I decided to make some pillow case dresses to help out a friend of mine who is sending them to Africa. I have one made, and it's the white dress with pink on the bottom. I have two others that are needing to be sewed together. If you want to know more about Little Dresses for Africa, click here.

I couldn't resist, I had to make one for Danica. Although, I didn't use a pillow case, I used just plain cotton material for her, and sewed it up like a pillow, and then made it. I got both of these dresses done in about an hour and a half. Not too bad. Tomorrow I will have Danica wear the dress, and I will post more pictures of her in it.

Soft Soled Shoes

I got some of this sweet fabric from Sarah. It's very metallic looking, but is soft on the inside. Well, I've been wanting for some time to make Danica a pair of shoes that are like the Robeez Shoes. Because, let's just say it, those shoes are so expensive! I bought her some on craigslist for $4 a piece, and that was a bargain!

I knew that I could make these, I just had to figure out how. So I got my fabric all cut out, and voila! I must say I think I did a pretty good job for the first time! The shoe has two soles, the bottom sole is yellow fleece, lined with a white suede cloth. The top of the fabric is that metallic color lined with white suede cloth. The heel is also that metallic fabric, but instead I lined it with orange suede cloth to spice it up a bit. There's a lot of layering in this shoe, but I hope that it will hold up for a while with all of it.

Now, off to make shoe #2! I have only made one so far. But Danica has two feet so I better get sewing! I will update with a picture of her in these later on!

DINO Pajama Pants

I got some material for free from Sarah at www.wallypop.net. I have this DINO print, and figured Jeremiah would love a pair of new pajama pants. He is currently wearing them right now, and he doesn't want to take them off!!! It's too cute! I've been making so many things for Danica lately. I knew that Jeremiah needed some things also. Oh, and according to him, I am the "best" pants maker ever!

Testing the Soakers

It's hard to get a good picture of a toddler with the new soakers I made. She is always on the go! The green soaker is the size large, and the pink striped one is the extra large. I must say, when I made the extra large I thought it was going to be WAY too big. But it's not too bad. I know that it will fit her for a long time to come, so that's good. Plus, isn't that tooshie cute! Who couldn't resist taking a picture. Hehehe!!!

New Soakers and Longies

I had two wool sweaters that were sitting waiting for something to be done to them. So I decided to make them into wool soakers and wool longies. I got the soaker pattern from Katrina's Quick Sew Soaker, which I have a link for if you scroll to the bottom of the page. The longies, I used the arms of the sweater, cut down to where the crotch would be, and then sewed the two pieces together. I then added some elastic in as well at the top. I think they turned out pretty good!!

Mini Wet Bags

I got this pattern from the Celtic Cloth Website for a mini wet bag. I made two of them within a matter of 30 minutes. They are so easy to make, and I have many ideas for them. I used leftover fabric from my diapers. It's just one layer of PUL that I sewed, and then I also serged around the edge for extra reinforcement. I know that one of the two I made will be used as my pads wet bag, and the other one will be in the diaper bag, as an extra bag to have around.

New Cloth Pads

Here are some new cloth pads to fill my stash a bit more. They need to be snapped still, but look at the colors! I never thought in a million years that I would like using cloth pads, but they aren't that bad. They're comfortable, easy to use, and very convenient as well. Plus, no more trips to the store when I run out, I just pop them into the washer and dryer, and we are good to go!!!

New Serger!!!!

I bought a serger from my aunt for $40!!! What an amazing deal for me. I am so excited about having my own serger now to do all the sewing I need. I've now serged more wipes for Danica, and also two diapers that were waiting to be serged. It's amazing what you can do when you have the right tools.

New Project for Spring Break

I have decided to help someone out for Lent this year. Instead of fasting and giving something up, she is going to sew dresses instead. I have opted to help out as well, as this seems like something I can do, and it sounds like fun. Plus, I get to help keep clothes on the backs of little girls. Flannel Pajama Pants!!!

I decided to go ahead and try to make Danica some pants. Her little body is so hard to find anything that fits, I figured I might as well go and make her some pants! I tried them out on a piece of fabric from my grandma so I know I didn't waste any if I did them wrong. They turned out cute! But, I do want to make the waist taller for her, because of the cloth diapers. Then I want to thin out the legs on the pants and I need to make them shorter by about and inch or so. Other than that, they turned out good! I can't wait to make another pair of them for her!

Here is Danica with her new diaper. It fits her really well! It might be on the big side just a bit, but she's only going to grow so I'm glad I made her the XL size. Don't worry, we put a cover on her as soon as we were done doing the pictures.

First Mama Pad

I have been thinking lately at how I can cut down on my spending. I have lots of extra fabric, and was given some PUL. I decided to go ahead and make myself a cloth pad. I used one layer of microfiber towel for the soaker, and then attached that to the pink flannel. Then I sewed the soaker to the pad part of the pink flannel. I then sewed the wings part as well. Inside the pad is a layer of PUL so that it is leak-proof. I topstitched around the whole thing so I know that everything is in place. I believe this turned out pretty well. I'm hesistant about using it, but I figure if I save some money, then it's well worth it. Also, even if I just use them at home then I know I've saved some money.

Looking back...

I was looking back through my diapers that Erin gave me that Isaac has now outgrown. My, the sewing skills have improved. As you can tell, the white diaper is my very first diaper I had ever made. I couldn't even wait for my touchtape to come in, so I went to the store and picked up some velcro. (I will never use velcro again) The red diaper is my Play-Doh diaper that is below. It is just the center of it.

It's just amazing to see how you can improve if you just keep trying. I love making the diapers for my daughter. It's fun, and it's my relaxation. Plus, the more I do it, the better I get at it. Hopefully I will get even better at making them.

I went to a rummage sale this past summer and found this awesome t-shirt to make a diaper out of. I was waiting for the perfect pattern for this t-shirt, and for some time to make it. Well, when Erin forwarded me the Tighty Whitey Hipsters pattern, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make this diaper. It turned out great! I can't wait to put her in this diaper and take pictures so people can see how it looks on her. I might go to my local thrift store or Goodwill to see what else I can find from old t-shirts. I absolutely love this pattern!

I have so many t-shirts to make diapers out of. Here is one that I did last night to give the pattern a try, and it turned out great!

The diaper is made out of an old t-shirt that Jake and I never wore, so I figured why not make it into a diaper, and Danica can have a use out of it. The top and bottom layer are of the t-shirt. I have a hidden inner layer of fleece in the t-shirt, and it makes it quite thick for a good fitted diaper. There is also a hidden soaker with the hidden layer of fleece. In the directions it says to serge around the soaker. Well, my serger needs re-threaded, and I don't know how to do it, so I just zigzagged around it. After I was all done with pinning and sewing, I topstitched the whole thing front and back, except for around the elastic.

Then I snapped the snaps in place, and the diaper was done. I think the next time I am going to do hidden snaps to try it out and see how it works. I don't really mind my snaps to be showing, but I want to try it out, since I never have tried it out yet.

Stinky Diapers???!!!

Ugh! My diapers have never smelled so bad before! I am trying to strip them, and they just don't want to get the smell out of them. Here is my latest try at getting rid of that stinky diaper smell...

1. Cold rinse
2. Hot wash normal with detergent
3. Cold rinse
4. Hot was with baking soda, and a tiny amount of detergent
5. Cold rinse
6. Cold rinse times 10!!!

Every time I peeked into the washer while it was rinsing, there always seemed to be bits of suds, so I kept on rinsing them. Hopfully this will work at getting the smell out! I've tried Calgon, and that doesn't seem to work for my diapers. So, hopefully baking soda will help!

Nemo and Spngebob Fattycakes!!!!!

So my cousin gave me a diaper pattern to use with Danica. It is called Fattycakes, and it has side snapping! I thought I would make some, and they turned out so cute! I love making pocket diapers for her! I used a medium, but I think I am going to have to go up a size, as my little girl is growing up way too fast! Her legs are so chunky! I will post the larges when I get them accomplished, but for now, here is the mediums.

Wee Weka Diaper

Here is a WeeWeka Diaper. Instead of using the snaps, I tried to just use velcro. I can already tell that it's not going to fit her for very long, because she is getting so big, and the velcro won't hold up the weight as well as the snaps would. Then, the other day, my hubby was holding her, and he felt something warm, well, she got him! If I keep using this diaper I am going to have to put pants on her so I know it will stay on!!!

Story Time!!!!

One of the things we like to do before we go to bed is read stories. Jeremiah would read five or more if I gave him the time. Now that Danica is older she likes to also look at the books as well. It's a good way for us to calm down for the evening, and my kids know bedtime is near. At two months, Danica actually sat through two stories, so we're getting her on the right track for reading!!!

Goodness Gracious Diaper

This is a Goodness Gracious diaper. I got the pattern from my cousin who also sews diapers. I make them for my daughter, Danica. I used a single layer of sherpa on the inside of the diaper, and then I used two layers of sherpa, and two layers of flannel on the outside for the outside soaker. I serged around the whole diaper, and also serged the outer soaker in place, which makes for easier drying for me. When I made the diaper, I did a medium, and only made one. Boy, and I glad I did, as the medium is too small for Danica. Her chunky legs can't make it around, and I needed to make the rise longer. At least I now know, so the next diaper will be much better. This pattern was so simple to use, I was able to complete this diaper today in only a few hours. That is, taking care of Danica first, so not bad at all!! :) I may use touchtape on the next one, but I'm not sure. I don't mind using the snappi on her, it's so easy, and that way I can save my touchtape for when I really need it. I am going to make some larges, and will post those later. I love the simplicity of serging around the diapers and not having to turn and topstitch them. Much less time consuming, and they even look cuter sometimes.

Wool Soaker Leggings

Here is Danica with her wool soaker leggings! I made them out of an old sweater that was given to me. The legs for her are the arms of the sweater. The pattern is from the Katrina's Quick Sew Soaker. This is too cute on her, plus it keeps her so warm. Too bad she'll be out of it before too long.

Baby Legs!!!

I thought I would try out the baby legs I made for Danica! They are a tad too big right now, but next winter they will fit her great! I bought some Christmas socks on sale after the holidays, so the season isn't right for now, but they still work. I just cut off the bottom of the socks, and the heels of the socks, and sewed them together. Not the greatest craftsmanship, but they are my first pair. So as time goes by they will get better. I love the convenience of having these on her during the day because it makes for easier diaper changing. Plus, she looks so cute in them anyways. I will update with more photos when I get around to making some more.

Diapers in Use!!!

Here is Danica in her fitted purple diaper and wool soaker I made. The diaper is from the Mama Bird Pattern, and the soaker is from the Katrina's Sew Quick Soaker Pattern. I love both of them. These diapers fit her so well right now, but I know that soon she will be out of them because she is growing up so fast. They grow out of the newborn diapers within the first month or two, it's crazy! I am planning on making some more soon, but we've been busy lately. (You can see why:-}) I have also made some nursing bra pads, which I will post later.

First Cloth Diaper!

Here is Danica in her first cloth diaper! She is only about a week old, so it looks huge on her! It was made by my cousing Erin, she is a stay at home mom, and makes cloth diapers of her own. She recently got a snap press, and made this diaper for me to try on Danica. She looks so cute in it! The funny thing is Joel, Erin's son, wore this diaper not to long ago himself, so I know that it is going to last Danica quite a while. Thanks Erin, it's cute!

Different Diapers/Covers

I decided to get my lazy bum into gear and start making more diapers. My little one will be here in five weeks or less, and I really needed to get into gear. This diaper was made using the Mama Bird Fitted Diaper Pattern. On the inside I used sherpa. I love using the sherpa because it makes the diaper seem sooo soft.

These two diapers, I made using the Darling Diaper Pattern. One is made using snaps, which I borrowed from my cousing, and the other one I figured I could pin or use a snappy on it. They are both infant fitteds that are made out of old t-shirts that I found around the house. They are actually made out of my maternity shirts that are too big for me, so they stretch a lot, compared to other t-shirts. I had a lot of fun making these diapers, and the snaps are awesome to use.

This is from the Rita's Rump Pocket Diaper Pattern. I used flannel I got from Jo-Anns fabric store that was on sale. I know I am having a girl, but I figured this diaper is going to need a cover, so that is why I have my John Deere fleece cover. The fleece covers are made from the Rita's Rump Cover Pattern. They are both very easy to make, and take almost no time at all once you start them. I really liked how the Pocket Diaper turned out, and I might actually go and buy some girly flannel so she can have some cute diapers.

New Sewn Wool Soakers

I found out how to sew wool soakers together from old sweaters. It's so easy, and it's a lot of fun. They look great when they are finished and they are so colorful as well. My cousin gave me the site for the pattern, and I love it! They look so cute!!!

This one is one of my newborns. The wool is super soft. Perfect to bring her home in!!!

These two are from the same pattern. The one to the left is a small, and the one to the right is a medium. I'm trying to make all that I can right now, because once the baby gets here I won't have time to make them as much as I am now. These are easy, and they don't take too much time at all.

These are my small leggings the baby can wear when she gets here. It is a wool soaker, but I think they're cute just to be worn as pants, and I can put a pocket diaper on with these. It's made from an old sweater from my cousin, and they're my first pair. I think they turned out pretty good! As I make some more I will post more. I am now working on a pink pair of leggings she will be able to wear when she is around one year of age.

Space Diaper

Here is my most recent diaper. It is a space pattern PUL, Jeremiah really likes outer space, and so he wants his baby sister to wear this. The pattern I used is a celtic cloths pattern, which I printed from their website. I sewed the elastic on the seam again, so the suede cloth would show through. You can really see it on this diaper. It's a medium, so she won't be able to wear this diaper for awhile. But it's best to be ahead of the game, and have all that I need before she gets here.

Swim Pocket Diaper

I decided to make a new pocket diaper. It has swimming/lifeguarding things around the material for the PUL. I also decided to sew the elastic on the seam, so that the suede cloth was showing on the outside of the diaper. It's kind of hard to see because the PUL is whitish in color, and the suede cloth is also white in color. It turned out to be great though!!!! I used the mama bird pattern again, but I tweaked it a little bit. I added some of my own features that I really like. Such as a tab for the back elastic to come down. I could use this as a diaper, and as a swim diaper for early summer, even though it has the touch tape.

This, to me, is my cutest diaper yet! I am very proud of myself for this one. It shows that I am getting better as the days continue.

We're having a baby girl!!!

Well, we just found out this weekend we're having a baby girl. I have nothing for a baby girl, since my first was a boy. I can't wait to start making pink and purple fitteds for her. I think it will be so cute. I may change the diaper that I want the baby to come home in, now that she's a girl, I don't want her to come home in blue and plaid. I want her to come home in something more girlish. Will post more pictures later as I make more!!

Prefold-Very first Diaper

This is my first prefold diaper. I don't remember where I got the pattern from, but it was very easy to follow. I used an old flannel shirt with 6 layers to soak in the middle. The I turned it around and topstitched the edges. Kind of ugly, and not exactly straight, but not too shabby for my first prefold. I actually think this was my first diaper all together.

AIO Diapers

The bottom diaper is my first AIO diaper. The same as the fitted, I used the mama bird pattern, and did black elastic around the whole edge of the diaper. I used velcro instead of hook and loop because I was impatient and I wanted to make my diaper as soon as I could. The touch tape came about a week later, and so I finished my stash of newborn AIOs. Daddy will enjoy using these diapers, as they are easier for him to use, with no pins and covers. I just love all of the colors I have so far, white is too boring for me. :)

Fitted Diaper

Here is my first newborn fitted. I used a mama bird pattern. The wings are kind of small, so I wished that I would have made them a bit larger. I used flannel all around for this diaper, that includes the soaker pad that I sewed in. This might be what the baby goes home in, because he/she won't be able to fit into it for very long. It's super small, probably up to 10 pounds.

This is my first time ever making my own blog. Hopefully I do it all correct. I didn't make, or use cloth diapers for my first child, but we wanted to. The availabilty of the washing machine did not help. Now that baby #2 is on the way, we have everything we need, and I can't wait to start using the diapers! I will post pictures as I get better at working this site out.
